Advent Swim at 6.6 Degrees - Daring swimmers brave freezing waters at Trebur’s 15th Christmas plunge
Over 60 brave swimmers took the plunge in Trebur’s annual Christmas swim this week. The event, now in its 15th year, saw participants strip down to swimsuits and bikinis despite chilly conditions. Around 250 spectators gathered to watch, enjoy food, and cheer on the hardy volunteers.
The tradition began with regulars from the local pool and has grown ever since. This year’s water temperature reached 6.6°C—warmer than the 5°C air outside. Lifeguard Elke Sparkuhl, a seasoned participant, called the conditions 'quite pleasant' compared to past events.
The Christmas swim continues to draw both participants and curious spectators each year. With water temperatures slightly milder than usual, this year’s event proved a little less daunting for those taking part. The tradition shows no signs of slowing down in the coming winters.
