Damaged sweetgum tree at Jahnplatz to be felled for safety

A sweetgum tree at the entrance to Jahnplatz in Pfaffendorf will be removed in the coming days. The decision follows a routine inspection that revealed severe damage to its roots. Drivers may face temporary disruption to parking during the operation. The inspection found that the tree, a Liquidambar styraciflua, had become unstable. A wood-destroying fungus had weakened its roots to the point where it could no longer support itself. As a result, authorities decided to fell the tree for safety reasons.

Access to the nearby parking area may be blocked while the work takes place. The city has also confirmed that a new tree will be planted at the same location this autumn.

The removal of the damaged sweetgum tree aims to prevent any risk of it falling. A replacement will be added in the autumn to maintain greenery at the entrance to Jahnplatz. Residents and visitors should expect short-term access restrictions during the felling process.
