Cyprus Unveils EU Presidency Logo Inspired by Lefkara Lace and Unity
A new logo has been unveiled for the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Designed by graphic artist Marios Kourooufexis, it draws inspiration from traditional Lefkara lace embroidery—a UNESCO-recognised cultural treasure of European culture. The emblem also reflects the colours of the Cypriot flag and the island’s bright sun.
The logo features 27 distinct elements, each representing an EU member state. These components come together to symbolise unity and resilience across the European Union. Kourooufexis aimed to highlight how cooperation and solidarity strengthen Europe as a whole.
The design’s intricate patterns mirror Lefkara embroidery, a craft deeply rooted in Cypriot heritage. Beyond cultural ties, the logo’s radiant shapes evoke the island’s sunny climate. The presidency has stated its commitment to steering the EU through ongoing challenges while promoting deeper integration. By blending national identity with European unity, the emblem reinforces the idea that collective action makes the European Union more robust. The presidency’s visual message aligns with its goal of fostering collaboration among all 27 nations.
The logo will serve as the official symbol during Cyprus’s term leading the Council of the EU. Its design merges cultural tradition with a forward-looking vision for Europe. The presidency’s priorities include addressing shared challenges through strengthened cooperation.
