In the picturesque landscape of Costa Navarino, Greece, a new luxury villa has emerged, seamlessly merging contemporary design with traditional Messinia patterns and local materials. Southwand House, designed by K-Studio, offers an immersive and joyful living experience that harmoniously blends social life, nature, and architecture.
The villa is a testament to K-Studio's commitment to creating a sense of calm, connection to nature, and fluidity between interior and exterior spaces. The design integrates indoor-outdoor living, starting from the entrance, and continues throughout the villa. Indoor functions are mirrored outdoors, offering various outdoor activities for residents to enjoy.
The central axis of the villa is a subtle yet powerful feature that ties all the spaces together visually and functionally. K-Studio considers this interplay of modules and the central axis as their favourite part of Southwand House. The team worked closely with clients who are social and active, creating a home for vibrant holiday living.
The villa features an intricate interplay of modules that form courtyards, passages, and dynamic outdoor spaces. The water element, through the large pool on the ground floor, relates to almost every ground floor space in Southwand House, reflecting views of nature and inviting it inside.
The residence's facade is defined by textural stone sourced from a nearby quarry, aligning with the region's traditional architectural patterns, making it a natural extension of the surrounding landscape. White concrete slabs are integrated into the facade, adding a modernist touch.
Bedrooms are located on the lefthand side or top floor of the building, offering stunning views of the Ionian Sea, lush golf courses, and gardens. The central courtyard invites visitors to visually and physically connect with the natural landscape, sea views, and the pool.
By situating their design within the rolling hills, olive groves, and cypress trees of Costa Navarino, K-Studio emphasizes a sense of immersion in the local environment. The architecture respects the local vernacular while expressing contemporary architectural form, resulting in a sustainable approach that promotes harmony between the building and its context.
Local materials such as the indigenous stone not only support sustainability by reducing transportation impact but also ensure the design is rooted in the traditional craftsmanship and visual language of the region. The thoughtful composition helps the buildings naturally blend with the landscape, enhancing both aesthetic and ecological sensitivity.
