City Nursery Prepares for Autumn Planting: 20,000 Plants Ready for Stadtgarten

The city's nursery is gearing up for autumn and winter planting, with a staggering 20,000 plants ready to be planted across the Stadtgarten. A variety of species, including Alpine violets, Stachys, Calluna, and Hebe, are set to be planted on October 8, 2025.

The nursery is preparing for the cooler months by ensuring tender indoor plants are wintered before the first frost. Evergreen house plants will overwinter in a darker room, maintained at temperatures between five and ten degrees. Bulbs should be planted in the fall after loosening the soil.

Many grasses and perennials are replanted every few years and cared for at the city nursery. The lawn should be mowed one last time before winter. October is also the ideal time to prune some ornamental trees, shrubs, and hedges in the garden. Roses can be cut back by half in October, but pruning can also be done in spring.

The Stadtgarten operation is a significant undertaking, with around 20,000 plants set to be planted this autumn. The nursery's careful planning and preparation ensure that these plants, including the Alpine violets and other species, will thrive in their new homes.
