City flees nation, ventures into alternate realms or dimensions

Here's how it went down: I found myself smitten lately. Let me relay the story. My good buddy invited me to a wedding, and I happily obliged - now her spouse is also a pal of mine, thanks to their romantic union. The nuptials took place in the rustic splendor of Tyrol. Nothing city-slick, but authentic as can be. First, the civil ceremony, then the church - it's the type of place the world's in harmony, like my old priest would put it, where the neighbor still remembers your name. I won't sugarcoat it - I fell hard. With that naive, newly-in-love fascination: the breathtaking scenery, the unique celebrations, the music, the vibe. It's easy to get swept away by all this when your heart's wide open and the mountains surround you in silence.

City-dweller transforms into a nature enthusiast, and even I felt a sudden urge to conquer a peak. The feeling was foreign to me because it was new. My surroundings were more postcard-perfect than real life. But upon closer inspection - stopping to take it all in - I spotted the effort behind the scene. The grit beneath the warmth, the commitment to create a celebration. Yet, as a guest, it all went unnoticed. All I could see was the charm. The mountains, the atmosphere, the community. It felt like time stood still for a moment, just for that day. Love, laughter, hugs, wine, and beer, all brought together. Folks from the countryside and the city, Austrians, and Germans - a big family for a day, much like a summer camp.

It was a grand bash. Met numerous new faces, engaged in fascinating chats, belted out a few tunes, mastered new dances, laughed heaps, and eventually, it was time to depart.

Life comes a-callin'

And so, Monday arrived. The hustle and bustle of daily life. Comparing yesterday's bucolic landscapes with today's gridlock, the stark contrast was impossible to ignore. Now it's my job to create magical moments for others, all while keeping the sweat and struggle behind the scenes hidden. The polar opposite program. But both sides of the coin make life what it is. Sometimes you wonder where you truly belong. The memories of the wedding and its charm linger, accompanied by a touch of longing for change. But reality catches up and defines our journey. Nonetheless: Life's adventures are never-ending. You just have to choose to embark on them. It seldom happens on its own, like weddings.

The pen behind the quill: Günther Lainer is a well-known figure on the cabaret circuit across the country.
