Citrus County property owners rush to meet May 1 financial relief deadlines

Citrus County property owners have until early May to submit several key applications for financial adjustments. These include requests for reduced common app fees for fire protection, solid waste reimbursements, and stormwater assessment credits. Each application requires supporting documents and must be filed with the correct county department by the deadline.

Owners of mobile home parks or RV sites can apply for a lower fire protection assessment if their vacancy rate has averaged at least 10% over the past year. Monthly occupancy reports must be provided to verify the claim. The Citrus County Fire Rescue will review these submissions before approving any reductions.

The Fire Protection Mobile Home RV Park Vacancy Application must reach the Citrus County Land Section Fire Protection MSBU by 1 May. A separate Solid Waste Vacancy Reimbursement Application is available for residential property owners seeking refunds on fees for unoccupied lots. This form, along with proof of vacancy, must also be submitted by 1 May to the Board of County Commissioners.

For stormwater fee relief, the Stormwater Mitigation Credit Application allows qualifying properties with on-site drainage systems—such as retention ponds—to reduce their assessments. Supporting evidence, like engineering reports, must accompany the form, due by 1 May to the Stormwater MSBU.

Low-income residents can apply for the Hardship Assistance Programme, which helps offset fire, solid waste, and stormwater costs. This application has a later deadline of 1 July and must be sent to the Solid Waste MSBU.

Property owners must act quickly to meet the 1 May deadline for most applications. Missing the cut-off means waiting another year for potential savings. Approved adjustments will reflect in future billing cycles, providing direct financial relief for eligible applicants.
