Chess Match titled Flagstone within the Chess28 platform
In the realm of board games, a captivating fantasy skirmish game called Flagstone has recently made a stir among gamers. This miniature-agnostic game, still in development, offers players a unique challenge as they navigate the treacherous Black Labyrinth, a location shrouded in mystery and intrigue.
The Black Labyrinth, also known as Maelbonica (the Marble Forest), is an ancient artefact discovered a century ago by explorers of the Elder Roots. Within Flagstone, it serves as a setting for a maze of onyx and marble flagstones, where despair and a lack of luxury loom over the player's character. The labyrinth is said to be a warren of tens of thousands of seemingly identical rooms, whose arrangement is constantly being reconfigured through some infernal machinery.
Rumours abound of immense treasures and occult artefacts hidden within the Black Labyrinth, drawing the avaricious and the hungry. Some even claim that the elves of Lucretanica use it as a place of banishment and exile, casting their most dire enemies into its depths.
While the search for information on Flagstone has led some to the discovery of the Chess28 Core Rules System, it is this game's Black Labyrinth that truly captivates the imagination. To play Flagstone, one needs a chess board, half a dozen D6 (and very occasionally one D8), miniatures, unit cards, gambit cards, wound tokens, treasure chests (or similar tokens), and various pieces of terrain.
Flagstone is the first game to utilise the Chess28 Core Rules System, and it includes list building and features four distinct factions. The game's rulebook contains a prototype of the game, and feedback is welcome on the Planet Smasher Games Discord server (
It is worth noting that while the name "Flagstone" may be familiar to some, it is not the same game as the tile-laying and puzzle game designed by Friedemann Friese and published initially in 2001. The origins of this new Flagstone are yet to be fully uncovered.
For those seeking a party game involving storytelling or hypotheticals, it is recommended to look elsewhere, as Flagstone offers a more strategic and immersive experience. However, for those intrigued by the prospect of navigating the treacherous Black Labyrinth, Flagstone promises an exciting journey filled with mystery and adventure.
In the realms of both board games and lifestyle, Flagstone, the highly anticipated fantasy skirmish game, presents a unique home-and-garden project for avid gamers. The intricate and reconfigurable Black Labyrinth, an integral part of Flagstone, serves as a captivating home-and-garden setting, not just for miniature battles, but also as a testament to one's commitment to gaming lifestyle.
