BUWOG’s 2,000 New Apartments and Houses Reshape Austria’s Housing Market by 2026
BUWOG is expanding its housing projects across Austria, with a strong focus on Vienna. The company has already broken ground on over 1,000 new apartments this year, with another 1,000 planned for 2026. These developments include a mix of rental and owner-occupied houses, alongside commercial spaces.
In Vösendorf, the vieno project is taking shape, offering 513 market-rate rental apartments. The development stands out for its innovative energy concept and has already won the 2024 European Property Award for Best Residential Development (20+ Units, Austria).
Meanwhile, construction has begun on the drygalski project in Vienna’s 21st district. This development will provide 94 owner-occupied houses, each with private outdoor space and access to communal areas. The project has also received dual honours at the European Property Awards in London.
Work is also underway in Vienna’s 15th district on the MyTurn development. This site will feature 72 apartments and eleven office units. Beyond the capital, BUWOG has started building the South Tyrol Quarter in Salzburg-Liefering, which will eventually include around 400 houses and ten commercial spaces.
CEO Andreas Holler has stressed the company’s dedication to delivering affordable housing despite rising challenges. With more than 5,500 units in the pipeline, BUWOG’s portfolio continues to grow.
BUWOG’s latest projects will add hundreds of new houses to Austria’s housing market. The company’s focus on energy efficiency, affordability, and mixed-use developments reflects its long-term strategy. Over 2,000 apartments are set to be completed by 2026, with further expansions expected beyond that date.
