Büderich's permaculture garden lets locals grow food and build community

A community garden in Büderich is offering locals a chance to grow their own produce while learning about permaculture. For a small monthly fee, members can tend to garden beds and join weekly gatherings. The project runs seasonally, with activities planned from April to October each year.

The Lehrgarten is situated on Am Apelter Weg and operates on permaculture principles. Each member gets access to a 36-square-metre plot for growing vegetables. The garden also hosts regular meet-ups every Friday afternoon, from 3 p.m. to about 5:30 p.m.

Membership fees are kept low to encourage participation. Adults pay €5 per month, while children, teens, and students contribute €2.50. Families can join for €10 monthly. At the gatherings, refreshments like coffee, apple spritzer, and water are provided.

The exact number of current members for 2023 or 2024 has not been made public. However, the garden remains open to new participants during its active season.

The initiative gives residents a hands-on way to engage with sustainable gardening. With affordable fees and weekly social events, the project aims to build a green community space. Those interested can visit the garden on Fridays to learn more or sign up.
