Brothers in Munich Devoted to Boaz: Cherishing a Shared Vision

In Munich, a Cozy Pub Revives a Historical Building and Sparks Community Spirit

Munich, Germany - The transformation of an old tram stop into a charming pub, "Schaumamoi," has become a cherished gathering spot in the Obergiesing district of Munich. The young owners, Lukas and Oskar Benkert, have maintained the pub's unique character while adding their own touches, all the while fostering a sense of community that has helped the pub weather the challenges of the pandemic.

" 'Schaumamoi' – it's like 'see me' in English," explains Oskar Benkert, referring to the pub's playful name and the philosophy behind it, which encourages guests to come as they are. "Nothing pretentious," he adds, echoing his mother's sentiments when she ran the pub before him and his brother took it over in 2024.

The small, welcoming pub offers a variety of beer types, including the house beer, Andechser, as well as the smallest beer garden in Munich. In addition to the great selection of beverages, the "Schaumamoi family," as Lukas affectionately refers to his customers, have shown their support during challenging times, aiding the pub by helping to restore broken shelves and tables.

These acts of kindness and camaraderie proved crucial during the pandemic, when the pub was forced to close. "Our regulars responded extremely positively to our fundraising appeal," recalls Lukas. "It was wonderful to experience the sense of community." For 25 euros, guests could purchase a piece of the old bar, which the brothers repurposed for the fundraising campaign. Thanks to this support, the "Schaumamoi" survived the pandemic without any major issues.

As for the future, the brothers plan to bring their own twist to the pub with the introduction of "Schaumamoi Beer." Oskar, who is a trained brewer, has long dreamed of brewing his own beer, and the brothers are enthusiastic about the prospect of serving it at the pub. "We want to keep it as it is," says Lukas, "but we will certainly add our own touch."

Despite the excitement about the potential new brew, the brothers can rest easy knowing that they won't have to face any closure due to urban planning reasons, as the house where the "Schaumamoi" is located is protected.

With its warm, homey atmosphere and strong sense of community, the "Schaumamoi" serves as a beacon of togetherness in the heart of Munich, continuing to thrive three decades after its transformation from a tram stop.
