Boats allowed permanently on northeastern Saxony's lakes - Boaters gain access to new lake areas in northeast Saxony with seasonal limits

Boaters in northeast Saxony now have access to more areas on Geierswalde and Partwitz Lakes. The expansion allows passenger vessels, motorised recreational boats, and non-motorised craft to enter previously restricted sections. Some zones, however, will stay closed during key months for environmental conservation reasons.

The newly opened areas on Geierswalde Lake include waters along the southwestern and northwestern shores. Boaters can explore these sections, though parts of the northwestern shore will remain off-limits from March 1 to September 30 each year.

On Partwitz Lake, the accessible zones now cover the southern and southwestern shores, the northern bank of the Barbara Canal, and the lake’s northern basin. Like Geierswalde, a section of the southwestern shore will also close annually for environmental conservation during the same period.

The changes follow a review of local boating regulations, though the exact year of the permit extension was not specified in available records.

The expansion gives boaters more freedom to navigate both lakes, with clear seasonal restrictions in place. Conservation areas will remain protected during critical months, ensuring wildlife and habitats are preserved. The updated rules apply to all types of watercraft, from passenger vessels to kayaks.
