Berner Bar warns: Beware, nasty surprise from above!
A nest of pigeons above the entrance of the Versa bar in Bern has caused an unexpected problem for staff and customers. The birds, which settled in last autumn, cannot be removed because they are raising chicks in the nest.
The Versa bar, located at Kornhausplatz, now faces a messy situation as pigeon droppings frequently fall on guests. Manager Ladina Ebneter has placed a warning sign near the entrance, alerting visitors to the risk from above.
A single pigeon produces around 22 pounds of droppings each year, making the cleanup a constant challenge. Staff must now clean more often and remain watchful to avoid accidents. The issue began when the pigeons nested above the bar’s entrance in the autumn. Since the birds are currently raising young, removing the nest is not an option for now.
Until the pigeons leave, the Versa bar will continue dealing with the droppings. Staff will keep cleaning regularly and warning customers to stay alert. The problem is expected to persist as long as the nest remains active.
