Europaplatz is being redesigned - work begins in February - Berlin’s Europacity Square to get a €3.1M green makeover by 2026

Europacity Square in front of Berlin Central Station will undergo a major renovation starting on 2 February 2023. The project, led by construction firm Strabag, aims to create a more welcoming station forecourt by mid-2026. Work will be carried out in stages to keep the station accessible throughout the process.

The redesign will introduce barrier-free pathways, new seating, and 30 heat-resistant trees. A covered bicycle parking area for 220 bikes and eight cargo bikes is also planned. The pedestrian crossing to the tram will be extended by five metres, improving access for travellers.

Vehicular traffic will be banned from the square during construction, with taxis redirected to Washington Square. The bus stop at the station forecourt will receive modern digital displays as part of the upgrades. The total budget for the project is approximately €3.1 million. The renovation follows the groundbreaking of the 'Upbeat' high-rise complex in Europacity, set for completion by 2025.

The project will transform Europacity Square into a more functional and attractive space for commuters and visitors. Construction is expected to finish by the first half of 2026, with phased work ensuring minimal disruption to station access.
