50,000 Tulips on Breitscheidplatz for Self-Picking - Berlin's Breitscheidplatz blooms with 50,000 free tulips for Tulip Day
Breitscheidplatz in Berlin will turn into a vibrant pop-up garden this week. Tulip Day Berlin kicks off at noon, offering visitors a chance to take home fresh blooms. The event is organised by the Dutch Embassy and Tulip Promotion Netherlands.
The celebration will feature 50,000 tulips spread across the square. Guests can pick up to ten flowers each to bring home. Organisers hope the event will showcase the emotional connection people have with tulips.
The Netherlands remains the world's top tulip producer. But Germany also grows the flowers on a large scale, particularly in Saxony-Anhalt and North Rhine-Westphalia. Hundreds of Dutch tulip growers are part of Tulip Promotion Netherlands, which supports the industry beyond national borders. This year's event continues a tradition of sharing tulips with the public. The bright display aims to bring a splash of colour to the city while highlighting the flower's cultural significance.
Tulip Day Berlin will run for a single day, with thousands of flowers available for collection. The event strengthens ties between Dutch and German growers while giving locals a chance to enjoy fresh tulips. All remaining blooms will be donated to care homes and hospitals after the celebration.
