Bavarian Red Cross launches beginner swimming course for kids in February 2026

The Wasserwacht branch of the Bavarian Red Cross in Fürth will start a new beginner swimming course on February 12, 2026. Aimed at children aged six and older, the programme focuses on teaching essential water safety and swimming skills in a structured, volunteer-led environment.

The course will take place over twelve evenings at the indoor pool on Scherbsgraben. Participants will learn more than just basic strokes—they’ll work toward the 'Seepferdchen' badge while also gaining knowledge in first aid, hazard recognition, and risk avoidance. Advanced training options will later include lifeguard and water rescuer qualifications.

Four local Wasserwacht chapters—Fürth-City, Großhabersdorf, Langenzenn, and Zirndorf—are jointly supporting the initiative. Beyond swimming instruction, the organisation emphasises community engagement through leisure activities, summer camps, and ongoing education. The long-term aim is to encourage young participants to remain active in their local chapters, helping sustain a reliable pool of volunteers. Swimming proficiency is treated as a critical life skill rather than just a recreational activity. The Wasserwacht highlights its role in preventing drowning accidents by equipping children with both practical abilities and safety awareness. Interested families can find further details by calling 0911 / 754809. No public information has been released regarding the specific leader overseeing the course in the BRK-Fürth-Distrikt.

The February 2026 course expands the Wasserwacht’s efforts to combine safety education with community involvement. By training children in swimming and rescue techniques, the programme aims to reduce water-related risks while fostering future volunteers.
