Bauhaus Invests €50 Million in Eco-Friendly Vienna-Ottakring Branch
Bauhaus invests €50M in Vienna's largest sustainable retail hub
Home improvement retailer Bauhaus is investing €50 million in a new branch in Vienna's Ottakring district, expanding its network to seven locations across Austria. The project is expected to create 120 new jobs.
Sustainable Focus for New Vienna-Ottakring Store
The specialty center repurposes an existing building, spanning approximately 17,000 square meters of retail space, according to the company. Two standout features are located on the second floor: Vienna's first permanent, brick-and-mortar STRAUSS workwear store and a modern bistro. The ground floor will house a coffee point and a bakery shop.
"Instead of constructing a new building, Bauhaus deliberately chose to undertake an extensive renovation of an existing structure, sending a strong ecological message," the company stated. To enhance customer convenience, escalators and an additional elevator have been installed, allowing shoppers with carts to move effortlessly between floors. The store will be heated using district heating, and a photovoltaic system capable of generating 750,000 kWh of electricity annually is also planned.
