Battersea Bridge to undergo 11-month safety overhaul for pedestrians and cyclists

Transport for London (TfL) will commence significant safety enhancements at Battersea Bridge starting 1 November. The 11-month project aims to mitigate risks for pedestrians and cyclists in the area notorious for collisions. The works will concentrate on sidewalks, traffic signals, and road layouts to support the mayor’s Vision Zero goal.

Construction initiates at the intersection of Battersea Bridge Road and Cambridge Road, then progresses north towards the bridge. The project is slated to conclude in autumn 2025, with TfL striving to minimize disruption to the road network. Councillor Rachael Robathan will oversee the pedestrian and cyclist safety upgrades.

During the works, delays are anticipated on adjacent roads and bus routes. TfL advises residents and commuters to plan alternative routes where feasible. The changes target areas with higher-than-average collision rates while also safeguarding bus travel times along the Battersea Bridge corridor.

Penny Rees, TfL’s head of healthy streets investment, elucidates that the project seeks to abate danger at this pivotal junction. The improvements dovetail with broader efforts to render London’s roads safer for vulnerable users.

The 11-month overhaul will reconfigure the area around Battersea Bridge, centering on safer walking and cycling paths. Upon completion, the modifications are designed to diminish collision risks and uphold reliable bus services. TfL will persistently monitor traffic flow to mitigate disruption during construction.
