Basel Autumn Fair Returns with Thrills, Views, and History
The Basel Autumn Fair, a cherished tradition over 550 years old, returns to transform the city into a bustling amusement park twice a year. Organized by Manuel Staub and his team, the fair offers thrilling rides, sweet treats, and a panoramic view of the city.
At the heart of the fair, the Ferris wheel at Münsterplatz provides a stunning view of Basel. Operated by Wiebke Bruch, the wheel costs a certain amount per ride. Meanwhile, the fairgrounds at Kaserne offer a mix of tall, fast, and loud rides, along with food stalls selling sweet treats.
Rolf Walser, a showman, explains the mechanics of bumper cars. These rides run on electricity and are checked by the TÜV team for safety. Behind the scenes, significant work, technology, planning, and passion go into ensuring everyone has a great time.
The Basel Autumn Fair, first held in 1886, is a testament to the city's rich history and community spirit. This year's event was brought to life by a sixth-grade class from Basel as part of an SRF media workshop, with students Adele, Ahmadou, Anna, Aimar, Beyza, Behar, Luan, Fritz, Rayan, Linus, Taylor, Lora, Yared, and Thea contributing to the article.
