Bamberg's 'Library of Things' Launches October 24, Promoting Sustainable Lending
Bamberg City Library is set to launch an innovative service, the 'Library of Things', on October 24, 2025. This new lending system encourages users to try new items from the library without purchasing them, promoting sustainable use and communal exchange.
The 'Library of Things' offers a wide range of items from various categories. Users can borrow household appliances, technology, sports equipment, and outdoor games using their library card. The service is integrated into the existing lending system, making it convenient for users to access.
The library will host an event on October 24, 2025, from 2 to 4 pm, where interested parties can test items and learn about the lending modalities. Items available include a door opener, digitalizer, sewing machine, balance board, slackline, die-cutting set, and energy meter. Due to space and safety reasons, items will not be displayed in public areas, but pictures and descriptions will be provided.
Jonas Glüsenkamp, Bamberg's Second Mayor and Environmental Referent, appreciates the expanded library offer, seeing it as beneficial for budget-conscious and environmentally conscious users. Christiane Weiß, the director of Bamberg City Library, shares this sentiment, viewing the 'Library of Things' as a way to promote environmental protection and communal exchange.
