Bamberg's 28,000 New Bulbs Transform Green Spaces for Bees and Beauty
Bamberg has launched a new floral project to brighten its green spaces. Nearly 28,000 bulbs have been planted this year across six key locations. The initiative aims to boost the city's natural beauty while supporting local wildlife.
The bulbs were planted in Markusplatz, Wilhelmsplatz, Gartenstädter Markt, ERBA Park, the historic garden, and Giechburgblick. Each site now features low-maintenance perennials designed to bloom early in the season. By June, the flowers will fade naturally, leaving only grass behind.
City gardeners chose bee-friendly plants to help pollinators thrive. This approach aligns with Bamberg's broader sustainability goals. The project also fits within the city's annual target of planting 20,000 to 30,000 new bulbs.
While no specific future sites have been named, the SPD Bamberg 2026 election programme supports sustainable planting in public areas. The current initiative builds on this commitment, though no additional locations have yet been confirmed.
The new flowerbeds will provide colour in early spring before blending back into the landscape. Their bee-friendly design reinforces Bamberg's efforts to protect biodiversity. The city plans to continue expanding its floral projects in the coming years.
