Bamberg doubles green building funds to €50,000 for 2025 climate push

This year, the city of Bamberg's Climate and Environment Department is again funding the greening of private buildings to combat rising temperatures and improve the city's quality of life. Due to last year's high interest, the budget has been increased from 30,000 Euros to 50,000 Euros, which particularly pleases Mayor and Environmental Referent Jonas Glüsenkamp: 'Many citizens participated in the city's greening last year, and I hope many will follow this year!'

The funding program aims to expand the city's green infrastructure and adapt to the consequences of climate change in the private sphere. As the environmental referent puts it: 'Roof and facade greening not only reduces the urban heat island effect but also keeps temperatures moderate inside buildings.'

In addition to residential buildings, carports, and garages, vertical objects like fences or gabions are also eligible for funding. Applications can be submitted online from October 1, 2025, to November 30, 2025.

Greening measures have numerous positive effects. They improve the city's climate, create new habitats for insects, and develop valuable urban nature oases.

Key information at a glance:

Application period: Funding can be applied for from October 1, 2025, to November 30, 2025. Application submission: Applications can be submitted via the city of Bamberg's online form on the project page at www.ourwebsite/funding-building-greening.

The programme supports greening on roofs, facades, carports, garages, and even vertical structures like fences or gabions. Officials aim to boost green infrastructure and help residents adapt to climate change. Green surfaces also reduce urban heat, cool buildings naturally, and create habitats for insects.

The increased budget reflects Bamberg’s commitment to climate adaptation and biodiversity. Property owners can apply online from October, with decisions made in the order applications arrive. Successful projects will contribute to cooler neighbourhoods and richer ecosystems across the city.
