Bamberg Bolsters Tree Protection with Digital Felling Applications

Bamberg's tree protection measures have been bolstered with digital application submission for tree felling. The City of Bamberg's Tree Office, or relevant local environmental/forestry department, oversees permits for tree felling and major modifications. The tree protection ordinance, enacted in 1993, safeguards the city's tree population, which supports local ecosystems and provides essential environmental benefits.

Residents can now submit applications for tree felling digitally via the City of Bamberg's website or Bayernportal. Protected trees, those with a trunk circumference of at least 60 cm for single-stemmed or 40 cm for multi-stemmed, require permits for felling, heavy pruning, or root interventions. These applications must be directed to the Lower Nature Conservation Authority. Tree felling is restricted from March 1st to September 30th, with exceptions for maintenance pruning or public interest.

Trees in Bamberg play a crucial role in the city's ecosystem, serving as habitats for various animal species. They also provide shade, cool the environment through evaporation, and filter air pollution, contributing to a healthier urban environment.

Bamberg's digital application process for tree felling aims to streamline the permit process while preserving the city's tree population. The Tree Office and local environmental/forestry departments ensure the responsible management of protected trees, balancing the needs of residents with the city's ecological well-being.
