Baden-Württemberg Honors Private Owners for Historic Building Restorations in 2026 Awards
The Baden-Württemberg Monument Protection Award 2026 has opened for entries. Organised by the Swabian Homeland Association, Badische Heimat, and the Wüstenrot Foundation, the prize celebrates private owners who have carefully restored or renovated historic buildings over the past four years.
Up to five winning projects will each receive €5,000, a certificate, and a bronze plaque for their efforts.
Eligible projects include both officially listed cultural monuments and unprotected buildings, with a particular focus on 20th-century structures. The award recognises sensitive renovations that preserve historical character while adapting spaces for modern use.
All applications must be submitted in printed form by April 30. A specialist jury will review the entries, shortlist candidates, and carry out on-site visits to assess the nominated properties.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in early 2027. No official figures exist on the number of private restorations across the region in recent years, and no specific areas have been identified as hubs for such work.
The award highlights the role of private owners in safeguarding Baden-Württemberg's architectural heritage. Successful applicants will gain recognition alongside financial support for their restoration work. The deadline for submissions remains April 30.
