Bad Salzungen upgrades sewer systems to boost wastewater treatment capacity

The Bad Salzungen Water and Wastewater Association is upgrading its sewer and pipeline systems across several key areas. The project aims to redirect wastewater from Kalte Mark and Altenstein to the Barchfeld treatment plant. Work is now progressing rapidly, with major sections already in place. Construction began with the goal of boosting connections to the Barchfeld wastewater treatment facility. So far, essential parts of the combined sewer system and stormwater drainage have been installed. The project has also expanded to cover additional sewer upgrades in Heintzenstraße.

Work at the Haselwiese site in Schweina is moving forward at full pace. Once this phase wraps up, attention will shift to renovating the Schweina drinking water treatment plant. The association is funding modern, long-lasting infrastructure to meet future needs.

As of April 2026, the exact number of unconnected properties in Kalte Mark and Altenstein remains undisclosed. However, the association is coordinating with local authorities to phase in the final connections. With construction now roughly halfway done, the project is on track to finish by mid-2026. The upgrades will ensure more households and businesses connect to the Barchfeld treatment plant. Public infrastructure work is scheduled to wrap up by mid-2026. The project marks a significant step in improving regional wastewater management.
