Atyrau's Nauryz blends cultural pride with bold green initiatives
Atyrau celebrated Nauryz with a lively mix of cultural events and environmental initiatives. The festivities included a grand parade of national costumes, traditional craft displays, and a tree-planting campaign to mark renewal and sustainability.
The Parade of National Costumes drew nearly four thousand participants from diverse ethnic groups. Representing communities such as Kazakhs, Russians, Tatars, Uyghurs, Koreans, and Bashkirs, the event highlighted unity and cultural pride. Similar multiethnic parades took place in other Kazakh cities, including Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent.
At the Atyrau Regional History and Local Lore Museum, visitors experienced traditional crafts, including a spinning master class. The demonstrations showcased heritage skills while engaging the public in hands-on activities. As part of the Nauryz celebrations, a mass tree-planting campaign saw 100 saplings planted across the city. This effort symbolised environmental responsibility and set the stage for future greening projects. In 2025, the city plans to expand its green spaces further, with 891 pines and firs and 1,500 ash trees scheduled for planting. By 2026, an additional five thousand trees and shrubs will be added to Atyrau's landscape.
The Nauryz celebrations in Atyrau combined cultural expression with environmental action. With ongoing tree-planting initiatives and expanded green spaces, the city continues to promote sustainability alongside its rich traditions. Future plans will see even more greenery added to urban areas by 2026.
