Atlanta Streets Alive 2026 kicks off with a fresh car-free route on MLK Jr. Drive

Atlanta Streets Alive will launch its 2026 season on Sunday, March 22. The free event will transform a two-mile stretch of MLK Jr. Drive into a car-free zone for walking, biking, and community activities. Organisers have planned a fresh route, running from the BeltLine to Broad Street this year.

The event runs from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., though street closures will begin at midday. Roads along the route will stay shut until 7:00 p.m., with specific crossing points for vehicles. The Atlanta Department of Transportation and Propel ATL are leading the initiative, aiming to create a safe, open space for residents.

Romany Aura Maloon, the event's manager, recently discussed details with ATL Live hosts Becky Sattero and Andrew Tyree. Attendees are urged to use MARTA, walk, or cycle to reach the event, reducing congestion and supporting its car-free spirit.

The 2026 opener introduces a new corridor along MLK Jr. Drive, offering a different experience for participants. With no registration required, the event invites everyone to explore the city in a fresh way. Streets will reopen to traffic once activities conclude at 7:00 p.m.
