Atlanta History Center's 'Shocktails' Event Bridges Past and Present
The Atlanta History Center is bridging the gap between the city's past and present through engaging after-hours events. The latest, 'History on the Rocks: Shocktails', is set for Wednesday at the Margaret Mitchell House.
East Lake resident Anastasia Owen recently attended an event at Westview Cemetery, where she commended the architecture and tour of Westview Abbey. The abbey, a Spanish Gothic mausoleum and chapel, was built in 1943 and boasts 27 stunning stained glass panels illustrating the life of Jesus Christ. It can accommodate over 11,000 entombments.
Westview Cemetery, one of the largest in the southeastern United States, is rich in history and notable residents. It's the final resting place of Asa Candler Jr., heir to Coca-Cola, and Henry Grady, among other influential figures. Hundreds of people recently gathered at the cemetery to celebrate Atlanta's history at the Atlanta History Center's Party with the Past event.
