Athens’ Historic Villa Kazouli Gets First Major Restoration in 25 Years
Villa Kazouli, a historic landmark in Athens’ Kifissia suburb, will soon undergo major renovation. Built in the 1890s as a summer home, the villa has served many roles over the decades. Now, the Environment Ministry is leading its first restoration in 25 years to address structural concerns and decay.
The villa was originally constructed by Alexandrian merchant Nikolaos Kazoulis as a private retreat. Later, it became a meeting place for intellectuals under Panagiotis Aristophron, who dreamed of turning it into a hub for philosophical debate.
The renovation aims to preserve a building that has witnessed over a century of Greek history. Once complete, Villa Kazouli will continue its role as a public space, though specific plans for its future use have yet to be announced.
