A Weekend Dip into Kazakh Culture: The "JETI QAZYNA" Ethnovillage
Astana's newly-opened JETI QAZYNA establishment has made its debut.
Want to get a taste of Kazakh culture? Look no further than the "JETI QAZYNA" ethnovillage in Astana, Kazakhstan! This cultural and historical haven brings together the essence of Kazakh heritage under one roof.
At the heart of the ethnovillage, you'll find: the robust and fearless batyr, the resplendent maiden, the majestic golden eagle, weaponry, the fleet-footed falcon, and the noble horse - all embodying Kazakh tradition at its finest.
The project's brainchild is entrepreneur Bauyrzhan Bilman, who's spearheading the development of domestic tourism, with a special focus on children's tourism. He recognized the challenges faced by guides trying to navigate scattered locations for cultural demonstrations, so he came up with this centralized hub.
"Astana's a bustling tourist destination, so there's always demand. I heard the groans of guides and tour guides pained by having to trek out to remote Kosshy just to showcase our heritage. Combining all displays in one spot like 'JETI QAZYNA' eases the logistics—making for a smoother, better overall experience," Bilman explained.
This ethnovillage doubles as an ethnomuseum, meticulously supporting Kazakh craftsmen. It hosts exhibitions and workshops by artisans from all across Kazakhstan, with master classes in weaving, wood carving, painting, and the creation of national ornaments.
Eager to get hands-on? Visitors can test their skills in horse riding, archery, or playing national games like asyk aty, toguzqumalaq, and arkany tartys.
The program includes mesmerizing live performances of Kazakh classical music, dazzling national dances, theatrical performances, traditional cooking classes, and awe-inspiring demonstrations with golden eagles and falcons.
Group tours can immerse themselves in a comprehensive cultural program lasting 3-4 hours. The ethnovillage is open every Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer.
