Asmita programme in Sivasagar spotlights women’s voices in literature

A literary programme titled Asmita took place in Sivasagar on December 27 to celebrate women’s contributions to literature. The event, organized by Sahitya Akademi in partnership with New Look Academy, brought together prominent writers and academics for readings and discussions. The programme featured readings by well-known female writers, including Lipi Phukan, Chandralekha Rajkhowa, Kunja Devi Upadhyaya and Ritamoni Borah. Their works explored themes such as identity, emotion, social realities and inner strength. Hiranya Saikia, the creator of the Asmita initiative, attended alongside other literary figures like Diganta Biswa Sharma, Prema Gogoi, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Dr Samar Jyoti Mahanta, Manoj Kumar Borthakur and Dr Ratul Sharma. Discussions highlighted the growing role of women in literature and the need for safe spaces where their voices can be heard. Srimanta Borthakur, principal of New Look Academy, opened the event with a welcome address, expressing gratitude to Sahitya Akademi for their collaboration. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Dipika Nath, a teacher at the academy. The event provided a platform for women writers to share their work and perspectives. By focusing on themes like identity and resilience, Asmita reinforced the importance of women’s narratives in contemporary literature.
