Aschaffenburg's front garden contest returns with eco-friendly flair for 2024
The Aschaffenburg district is preparing for its sixth annual front garden competition. Starting on April 1, residents can enter one of four categories to showcase their gardening efforts. Applications will remain open until September 30, with all submissions handled online. This year's competition includes four distinct categories. The gravel garden section asks participants to submit before-and-after photos of their redesigned spaces. Another category, insect-friendly gardens, focuses on ecologically designed front gardens that support local wildlife.
The **native species planting** category covers balconies, rooftops, or facades featuring plants native to the region. Meanwhile, the **Little Gardeners** section highlights schools, nurseries, or community groups where children engage in gardening projects. Unlike the other categories, this one is non-competitive, aiming to teach youngsters about nature in a hands-on, playful way. Notably, no entries from Aschaffenburg have appeared in the competition's results over the past five years. Organisers hope this year will encourage more local participation.
The competition runs until the end of September, with all entries submitted digitally. Winners will be chosen based on creativity, ecological impact, and adherence to category guidelines. The event continues to promote sustainable gardening practices across the district.
