Art Auction for Refugee Children This Saturday: A Chance to Make a Difference

Saturday, December 17th, from 2-4pm, join us at the vibrant Iðnó for an unmissable art auction. Your attendance and investment in these art pieces can profoundly impact the lives of refugee children. Not only will you enjoy a unique musical entertainment experience, but you'll also have the opportunity to bid on artworks, including masterpieces by Iceland's finest artists, as well as heartrending creations by promising young artists eager to make a difference.

Meet Esther Þorvaldsdóttir, one of the founders of the organization Rights for Refugee Children, established in Iceland in 2019. She explains their mission: "Our focus is on the Icelandic government upholding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child more effectively than it does now. We need to ensure this principle is incorporated into regulations, as mere legislative confirmation isn't enough. We assist children with legal issues, particularly precedent-setting cases, to ensure their rights are respected and learned from going forward."

It's crucial to bring attention to this pressing issue and educate the public and officials on the Child Rights Convention, especially when decisions seem contrary to it. Esther emphasizes, "We currently have over 60 children on our list, and it demands a significant financial commitment to provide them with proper legal representation, ensuring their cases are considered individually instead of as mere luggage belonging to their parents."

A host of talented artists has generously donated their work for this noble cause. Masterpieces from Guðjón Ketilsson, Marit Trönqvist, Hallgrímur Helgason, Þrándur Þórarinsson, Tinna Þorvalds, Annadóttir, Baldur Helgason, Þorvaldur Jónsson, and Mireja Samper, among others, will be available for bidding. Engage, support, and learn at this artwork extravaganza while promoting the rights of refugee children in Iceland.

Join us at Iðnó this Saturday and witness the power of art in driving change for a better world. Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a difference while enjoying music by renowned artists Ásgeir Trausti and Sigríður Thorlacius. See you there!
