Andalusian Horse Rescue Centre Opens Doors for Spring Visits and Adoptions
The ARCH Andalusian Rescue Centre for Horses in Alhaurín el Grande has been caring for neglected and abandoned equines since 2007. By March 2026, the volunteer-run charity had rescued over 2,500 horses, ponies, and donkeys. Now, as spring begins, the centre is preparing to welcome visitors during its upcoming open days. The centre will open its doors on Good Friday, from 10am to 2pm, and again on the first Sunday of spring. Located along the A404 between Alhaurín el Grande and Coin, near Viña Borrego and Hacienda Morena, the facility relies entirely on public donations and volunteer efforts.
Among the animals currently in care, Torero holds the title of the oldest resident, while Little Luz de Luna is the youngest. Lola, a friendly donkey, enjoys attention and petting from visitors. The centre works closely with local authorities and SEPRONA, Spain's nature protection service, to address equine welfare cases. Recent Easter donations will help fund essential supplies, including feed, bedding, and veterinary treatment. Open days also provide an opportunity for potential volunteers, foster carers, and adopters to learn more about supporting the charity's work.
The centre's open days aim to raise awareness and gather support for its ongoing rescue efforts. With over 2,500 animals saved since 2007, ARCH continues to depend on community generosity to care for its current residents and future arrivals. Visitors can meet the horses, donkeys, and ponies while discovering ways to contribute.
