Ample, secure parking options for bicycles – expansion to 80 spots in bike garages at Essen central station
On September 18, 2025, four new bike garages will be operational at Weiglestraße, Essen Central Station. These garages, designed to offer cyclists a safe and dry parking option near the station, are part of an initiative to encourage a switch from cars to the environmentally friendly means of transport, bike and train.
Each bike garage offers 20 parking spaces, totaling 80 spaces for bicycles. Regular bicycles and e-bikes can be accommodated in these garages, with e-bikes being stored on the lower level. The garages are secured with sliding doors and can be accessed via the "DeinRadschloss" system.
These bike garages are double-decker, providing ample space for both regular and electric bicycles. They can be used for daily or long-term parking, and bookings can be made through the Ruhrbahn app or the VRR app. Bookings can be extended indefinitely via these apps as well.
The new bike garages are intended to provide a secure and weather-protected parking solution for cyclists. They are part of a larger plan to promote sustainable transportation in Essen.

After the inauguration of a new bike parking house at the central station, the four bike garages will be used at other locations in Essen. Prices for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly parking are 1 Euro, 5 Euro, 10 Euro, and 70 Euro, respectively.
