Hear it straight from Kidical Mass GLRain couldn't dampen the spirits of the 150 child cyclists and adults who joined the bike demo, marking their eighth outing and first from Bensberg to Refrath.

In their own words,"We're aiming for all kids to cycle to school safely. That's why we're fighting for Kauler Street to become a school street," emphasized Kerstin Bacher, principal of Evangelical Primary School Bensberg. She further let students clarify the concept: A school street is a street leading to school that is off-limits to cars during drop-off and pick-up times, ensuring a safer environment for cycling and walking.

Previous demands made in November by the Kidical Mass and four schools led to an agreement among all political factions to commission the administration to develop a school street concept for Bergisch Gladbach. The implementation, however, remains pending.

Similar struggles arise with the topic of bike lanes. Following decisions made with large political consensus, the administration is busy working on the concept for the first bike lanes in Refrath and Frankenforst.

On the same route boasting many schools, the Kidical Mass cycled, with police escort and ADFC support, which provided participants with balloons, reflective vests, and reflectors.

Marcel Kreutz, Local Greens and SPD mayoral candidate from Refrath, also participated in the ride. He shared his commitment to traffic safety for children, promising to prioritize the issue if elected mayor.

Plans for future Kidical Mass events in Bergisch Gladbach are yet to be announced, but the momentum from the latest rally should continue shaping local traffic policies and infrastructure developments.
