Almaty's Almaly District blooms with 5,500 new trees and resident-led greening

Almaly District in Almaty has expanded its green spaces this year with new flower beds, trees, and a themed square. Residents took part by planting personalized trees, each marked with their names. The district also focused on safety by removing hazardous trees and improving lawns in busy areas. The district planted flower beds covering 6,970 square metres. Alongside this, 5,500 new trees were added under the Jasyl Almaty (Green Almaty) programme. A section of Maulenov Street now features green displays with 2,760 perennial plants, supported by an automated irrigation system.

Over 7,000 existing trees received sanitary and formative pruning to maintain their health. Meanwhile, 300 dangerous trees were felled to ensure public safety. A newly established Green Commission oversaw the removal of these hazardous trees. Residents contributed by planting personalized trees, each fitted with a plaque bearing their name. This initiative made them official guardians of their trees. Additionally, a themed square honouring emergency responders was opened, further enhancing the district's public spaces. Lawns were also restored across 7,000 square metres, particularly in worn pedestrian zones along Nazarbayev Avenue and nearby streets.

The efforts in Almaly District have added thousands of new plants, improved safety, and engaged residents in greening their neighbourhood. The changes include themed public spaces, better-maintained trees, and refreshed lawns. These updates aim to create a greener, safer environment for both locals and visitors.
