Allianz Warns: 40% of Aussie Homeowners Neglect Maintenance, Costing Thousands

Allianz Australia has launched the Home Care Report, an online resource offering tips and advice on home maintenance. This comes as a wake-up call for the 40% of Australian homeowners who admit to neglecting regular maintenance, with potentially costly consequences.

Allianz's Home Health Check service, currently in trials, offers inspections and assessments to prevent damage. The insurer recorded over 19,000 claims involving burst pipes and water damage, highlighting the need for proactive maintenance. Despite understanding the risks, only 16% of homeowners act on maintenance regularly. Younger and newer homeowners tend to be more diligent, while more experienced owners may admit lapses. Leading property renovator Rebecca Cardamone stresses the importance of regular maintenance to protect a home's value and liveability. Home ownership, while often seen as a reflection of hard work and a place to build memories, can also be a long-term source of stress due to maintenance responsibilities and cost-of-living pressures.

Allianz's Home Care Report aims to empower homeowners to take control of their home maintenance, preventing minor issues from becoming expensive repairs. With over 40% of homeowners admitting to neglecting regular maintenance, there's a clear need for such resources to help Australians protect their homes and manage their financial responsibilities.
