Alexandria Launches '2025 Pumpkin Rescue' Initiative

Alexandria, Virginia, has launched the '2025 Pumpkin Rescue' initiative, taking charge of collecting and repurposing old Jack-o'-Lanterns, pumpkins, gourds, and squash from November 1, 2025. Residents can contribute to this eco-friendly cause by donating their intact, unpainted, and uncut produce.

Alexandria residents can drop off their donations at various locations across the city on the weekends of November 1-2, 8-9, and 15-16. These include Old Town, Del Ray, Four Mile Run, West End, Old Town North, and The Market at Southern Towers farmers' markets. Alternatively, residents can compost their pumpkins and gourds at Food Waste Drop-Off Stations in Alexandria, regardless of their condition.

For those with curbside compost collection services, simply place one pumpkin, gourd, or squash out with your bins for collection on your regular pickup day.

The '2025 Pumpkin Rescue' initiative aims to reduce waste and promote sustainability in Alexandria. By collecting and repurposing these seasonal items, the city hopes to make a significant impact on its environmental footprint.
