The pristine beauty of the Alanya region's sea is under threat, as it has reached a critical state due to pollution. This pollution, caused by a multitude of factors, poses a significant health risk to tourists and causes harm to marine life and coastal plants.

Tourists visiting the region may experience vomiting or nausea due to contact with the polluted water. There is also a risk of fever for those who come into contact with it. Waste from beaches severely affects marine ecosystems, and plastic waste is a significant contributor to the pollution.

Boats also play a role in the pollution, while untreated domestic sewage discharge is a significant contributor. The pollution situation is promoting a sharp increase in pathogenic microorganisms, quickly spreading and destroying local flora.

Experts, including Hüseyin Değirmenci, chairman of the Alanya Gastronomers and Pensioners Association, are urging for changes in traditional breakfast serving practices to reduce food waste. Ramazan Bingöl, a member of the Presidential Council for Agricultural and Food Policy, emphasizes the need for policy initiatives to reduce food waste, and highlights the importance of legal frameworks to implement these changes.

Ramazan Bingöl from the Turkish Gastronomy Association (Türes) also stresses the need for educational initiatives to raise environmental awareness among the public. Hotels like TUI BLUE Palm Garden are employing technical solutions like the AI-based KITRO system to monitor and reduce food waste.

Close cooperation between tourists, agricultural sectors, and local authorities is crucial in addressing this issue. Implementation of joint monitoring programs involving farms and hotels is necessary to combat the pollution. Experts warn that if not addressed immediately, the sea pollution situation in the Alanya region may worsen by next year.

Addressing the sea pollution problem solely through ecological engineering is insufficient. A comprehensive approach, involving policy changes, public education, and technological solutions, is required to restore the health and beauty of the Alanya region's sea.
