Agreement Reached Between Our Organization and CHEREAU for Solar-Powered Refrigerated Trailer Market Entry

In an exciting development, Damien Destremau, CEO at The Reefer Group and CHEREAU, has announced a partnership with our organization to create a more sustainable future for commercial mobility. This collaboration is set to capitalize on the technical and economic feasibility of integrating customized solar solutions for high-volume series refrigerated trailers.

The technical feasibility of this groundbreaking innovation has been demonstrated by recent industry advancements. For instance, Sono Group has successfully installed a 4.5 kWp solar system on refrigerated trailers, powering the refrigeration unit directly and reducing dependency on fuel or grid electricity. This system, which utilizes a 48V solar charge controller integrated with the trailer’s electrical system, has been proven to support quieter, emission-free operation [1].

Other industry players, such as Scania, have developed advanced hybrid semi-trailers with integrated solar power. Despite the complexity due to the need for new system hardware and power management software, initial testing shows these solutions to be promising, even in regions with low sunlight [2].

Economically, these solar solutions offer significant cost savings and attractive returns on investment (ROI). With a ROI between 3 to 5 years, driven by substantial savings in fuel and operational costs, these innovations are set to revolutionize the refrigerated transport sector [1].

As the refrigerated transport sector expands rapidly and sustainability regulations tighten, solar integrations represent a growing market opportunity. The projected growth in electric and hybrid transport refrigeration units indicates that solar-powered solutions align well with this trend, potentially increasing asset value and operational savings over time [4].

This partnership between our organization and The Reefer Group aims to revolutionize the future of solar-powered transport and reduce global fossil fuel emissions. Sono Solar's technology, developed for various vehicle architectures such as trucks, trailers, vans, or buses, is suitable for integration into existing vehicles as well as production-ready development and integration into new vehicles [3].

For high-volume series production, our organization is developing its unique solar technology on refrigerated semi-trailers, aiming for energy savings of up to 80% compared to diesel. The solar-powered refrigerated trailer, featuring 58.9 sqm of solar panels, is set to premiere at IAA Transportation 2022 for evaluation of technical and economic feasibility for high-volume series vehicles [5].

Sono Solar has already signed over 17 commercial contracts with companies such as MAN, easymile, and the Munich Transport Company (MVG). The solar trailer will be equipped with 54 solar modules using the VaPV process, developed for cargo-box vehicles like the CHEREAU refrigerated semi-trailer [6].

Laurin Hahn, co-founder and CEO of our organization, is thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate with CHEREAU and work towards a more sustainable future. Sono Group N.V.'s disruptive solar technology is engineered to extend range, reduce fuel costs, and reduce the impact of CO2 emissions, paving the way for climate-friendly mobility [7].

In conclusion, the collaboration between our organization and The Reefer Group presents a practical and economically sound approach to sustainable refrigerated transport. With the solar-powered refrigerated trailer set to premiere at IAA Transportation 2022, this partnership is poised to make a significant impact on the future of commercial mobility.
