Activity in Kronprinzenquarter District
======================================================================================
In the heart of Hamburg, Germany, a vibrant neighbourhood named Kronprinzenviertel is undergoing a transformation, thanks to the efforts of local resident Ann-Katrin Roscheck and Bürgergesellschaft Schinkenplatz e.V. This community-led project, known as "Fighting the concrete jungle with green," aims to beautify the neighbourhood and foster a sense of ownership among its residents.
The genesis of this green movement can be traced back to Ann-Katrin's observation that the addition of more pots to the neighbourhood would make it more inviting and attractive. This idea was born when she crafted pots to size for a rebuilding foundation center on Luisenstraße.
Ann-Katrin and her husband, residents of Elisabethstraße, have been placing large flower pots and high-quality window box planters in the Kronprinzenviertel neighbourhood for the past two years. Their home, adorned with wooden boxes on the window sills and a large flower pot with a wisteria in front of the door, serves as a testament to their commitment to this initiative.
Pots have been placed on the window sills of a daycare center on Philadelphiastraße, and five more large pots will be placed on Mariannenstraße during the street festival on August 23. The project is currently funded by district representation, sponsorship funds, and private donations.
For those interested in supporting this initiative, donations can be made under the keyword "Flower pots" with a donation receipt available for tax purposes. IBAN: DE68 3205 0000 0003 8165 50. Ann-Katrin Roscheck also prepares the special use application necessary for placing the pots on the sidewalks, and the Bürgergesellschaft covers the costs of the application.
Patrons only have to plant the pots when they receive them. When sidewalks are too narrow, window box planters are offered as an alternative.
Ann-Katrin's dedication to this project stems from her desire to improve the perception of the Kronprinzenviertel neighbourhood, which she felt was being written off due to the move of a drug help center into the area. She believes that the pots help more people take responsibility for their own neighbourhood, as they want it to look neat around them too.
The Kronprinzenviertel neighbourhood boasts beautiful Jugendstil houses, wonderful courtyards, special owner-operated workshops and shops, and a well-mixed resident structure. Ann-Katrin's efforts have not gone unnoticed, with many residents and passersby admiring the change in the facade and the positive impact the pots have had on the neighbourhood.
Ann-Katrin is also applying for project funds from the "Nebenan Stiftung" and needs more votes for a chance to secure 1000 euros. Voting for the project can be done online at https://www.klimaschutz-nebenan.de under the keyword "Fighting the concrete jungle with green."
