Aachen's Holzgraben Transformed with Green Seating Islands

Aachen's city center has been revitalized with the installation of five green seating islands in Holzgraben, funded by a mix of local, state, and federal initiatives. The aim is to boost the quarter's renewal and attractiveness.

The seating islands, measuring 1.50m x 1.50m each, are high-quality planters with integrated seating and backrests, crafted from durable powder-coated steel and Douglas fir. They're home to five small fire maple trees and insect-friendly underplanting. The city region of Aachen, along with support from NRW and the federal government, funded the project, with 70% coming from NRW's 'Future-proofed inner cities' program.

Locals and businesses, like 'SONNENTOR', have embraced the new greenery. Horst Recker, the owner, welcomes the seating islands as an enhancement to the street. A cross-departmental taskforce is working with stakeholders to improve the quarter's quality of life and attractiveness, with the Future process Innerstadtmorgen providing more information at www.innenstadt-morgen.de.

The new green seating islands in Aachen's Holzgraben are a testament to collaborative efforts between locals, businesses, and governing bodies. They're expected to foster a greener, more inviting city center, contributing to the ongoing renewal of the quarter.
