A Serene, 11-Month Home Redefines Modern Living in New Delhi

Architect Akshat Bhatt and his partner Sneha Gurjar have created a unique home in New Delhi, completed in a swift 11 months. The residence, named 'Bhatt's Home', is a masterclass in efficiency and restraint, eschewing decorative excess for a calm, neutral aesthetic.

Bhatt's practice is renowned for control, yet his home is surprisingly fast, frugal, and personal. The result is a serene, silent space where light and proportion take centre stage, rather than materials. The architects followed five rules for the material palette: no exposed concrete, no kota, no kadappa, no exposed brick, and no Italian marble. Indian marble, costing just 20 INR per square feet, was used for the floors. Walls are treated with a textured paint finish, a departure from Bhatt's usual precision. The home boasts no false ceilings or decorative surfaces, allowing for a lived-in informality that resists easy categorisation.

The material choices were driven by speed of delivery, efficiency, consistency, and availability, rather than indulgence. Bhatt's Home is a testament to the architects' technical precision and their ability to create a personal, inviting space that defies expectations.

In just 11 months, Akshat Bhatt and Sneha Gurjar have built a home that is both efficient and inviting. By prioritising speed, efficiency, and availability, they've created a space that is calm, neutral, and decidedly unpretentious. Bhatt's Home stands as a remarkable achievement in modern architecture.
