A Mumbai Apartment Becomes a Canvas for Family Memories and Design
A 1,250-square-foot apartment in Mumbai’s Juhu-Santacruz area has become a deeply personal space for designer Tania Shah. The home, crafted by Shah herself, blends family memories with contemporary living. Every corner reflects her artistic vision and the stories of those who live there.
Tania Shah, principal designer at TS Design Works, took on the project with a simple brief: make it personal. There was no fixed theme, just a desire to create a space that felt uniquely hers. The result is a home that honours heritage while embracing modern touches.
The apartment balances nostalgia with fresh design. Neutral tones form the base, but pops of colour and texture keep the space from feeling flat. Shah describes it as a self-portrait—one that tells her family’s story through carefully chosen details.
Gauri Khan, another prominent designer, also worked on a family home in the same neighbourhood. But Shah’s project stands out for its intimate connection to her own life. Each room carries meaning, whether through heirlooms, artwork, or thoughtful layouts.
The finished home is more than just a living space. It serves as a visual narrative of Shah’s design philosophy and her family’s journey. By merging past and present, she has created a place that feels both timeless and deeply individual.
