A Madrid Home Transformed by Light, Art, and Open Spaces
A Madrid home owned by architects David Meana and Azul Vivó underwent a major renovation in late 2022. The project, carried out with local firm DIIR, transformed the space into a flexible, light-filled residence. The redesign focused on opening up the original layout while preserving its character.
The couple worked alongside DIIR to rethink the home’s linear structure. Walls were removed to create an open-plan living area, revealing a hidden courtyard at the centre. This change brought natural light deeper into the house.
The interior balances modern materials with warm textures. Stainless steel dominates the kitchen, paired with white granite countertops. Bespoke carpentry adds contrast, softening the industrial feel with wood tones. Art plays a defining role in the home’s identity. The couple’s collection, heavy on blue-hued pieces, ties the spaces together. Ceramics and paintings in similar tones complement the sleek kitchen and stone surfaces. Even small details, like the stone door frames, add movement to the rooms.
The renovation reflects DIIR’s signature approach: a neutral base designed to adapt to its inhabitants. The result is a home that feels both structured and personal. Open spaces, natural light, and carefully chosen materials now define the couple’s Madrid residence.
