A Former Ex-Lax Factory Becomes a Striking Industrial-Chic Apartment

David Finch has transformed a two-bedroom apartment in a former Ex-Lax factory on Atlantic Avenue into a unique living space. The Boerum Hill property retains its early 20th-century industrial roots while blending modern design. Finch worked closely with interior designer Danielle Fennoy to bring his vision to life.

The apartment’s high ceilings and sturdy cement columns immediately appealed to Finch. He wanted to preserve the building’s original character while updating its interiors. To achieve this, he and Fennoy stripped back layers of ceiling paint to reveal the raw concrete beneath.

The project successfully merged Finch’s personal style with the building’s industrial heritage. The apartment now combines exposed concrete, bespoke furniture, and vintage details. The result is a distinctive home that honours both its past and Finch’s creative vision.
