A family of six in Gütersloh crafts a picturesque garden haven, complete with a swimming pool, transforming their property into a tranquil oasis.

In the heart of Rietberg, a 39-year-old physiotherapist named Sina Corsmeyer-Quibeldey has created a beautiful oasis for her family and their four children. Three years ago, the Rietberger family purchased a red brick house with a 400 square meter garden, which was once wild and shaded by several old trees.

Sina, the creative mind of the family, has transformed this space into a picturesque, structured garden in the country style. As early as 5 am, she can be found pursuing her passion in the garden, tending to her favourite flowers—black-eyed Susans and hydrangeas.

The garden is a delightful blend of charm and practicality. It features a swingset, a mini-pond with a frog king that spits water, a playhouse lit up with a string of lights, and a wooden horse. Sina has even framed the front part of the pool with dark green vines.

To optimise space, Sina has designed vertical gardens and pallet planters, and she has built raised garden beds using simple lumber to improve soil quality and accessibility. To add a touch of whimsy, she has incorporated bee hotels and bird baths, promoting biodiversity and aesthetic appeal.

However, gardening in Rietberg is not without its challenges. Sina often has to wrap plants in chicken wire due to mice in the garden. Managing watering logistics, especially in overgrown or difficult-to-access areas, is another common issue. Sina's husband, Daniel, mentions that the children need to be older for the inground pool, which Sina dreams of having.

Despite these challenges, Sina continues to enhance her garden, with plans to expand its features, refine its design, and experiment with sustainable gardening practices. This summer, the Rietberger family's garden is one of the 14 most exciting gardens selected for a competition to find the "most beautiful garden in OWL."
