A Bengaluru Home Reimagines Chettinad Heritage with Modern Flair
A Bengaluru home has blended modern living with traditional Chettinad influences. Designed by Pratyusha Kethinedi of House of Katha, the 2,700 sq ft space draws on the owners' heritage. Childhood memories and regional craftsmanship shape its unique character.
The owners' Chettinad roots inspired the home's design. Instead of copying traditional styles, the architect distilled key elements into a contemporary setting. Arched doorways and patterned floors anchor each room, creating a sense of continuity.
Athangudi tiles, carved wood, and brass vessels feature throughout the house. These materials were chosen for their connection to the owners' past. A temple corner was also included, reflecting cultural significance.
The result is a home that balances nostalgia with modern functionality. Every detail, from textures to spatial flow, honours the family's lineage while fitting their current lifestyle.
This Bengaluru residence stands out for its thoughtful fusion of old and new. The design respects Chettinad traditions without replicating them directly. For the owners, it becomes a living link to their childhood and heritage.
