100,000 Tulip Bulbs Planted by Volunteers for a Stunning Spring Display
Thousands of volunteers gathered at Kirna Manor in Järva County on Saturday to plant tulip bulbs, aiming to create a vibrant display next spring. This year's project, initiated by the manor's owner, involves 100,000 bulbs, including 50,000 tulips from 80 different varieties.
The soil was meticulously prepared to ensure a healthy start for the bulbs. It was treated with a potassium permanganate solution and mixed with sand, peat, and a blend of organic and mineral fertilizers to eliminate any pathogens. Volunteers, armed with this nutrient-rich soil and expert advice, began their task.
Among the volunteers was Aili from Türi, who shared her knowledge on planting tulip bulbs. She advised planting them at least three times their depth, with the root facing down and the tip facing up. Margit, a regular volunteer from Paide, has been participating in this tradition for years, contributing to the manor's beautiful tulip garden.
Last year's cool and rainy spring led to a gray mold outbreak, necessitating the replacement of many tulips. This year's planting aims to restore and enhance the garden's former glory.
In total, 100,000 bulbs were planted this year, with 50,000 being tulip bulbs. The manor's owner's vision, combined with the dedication of volunteers like Aili and Margit, promises a spectacular tulip display at Kirna Manor in Järva County next spring.
